Marine Vessels and oil platforms require passive fire protection in critical areas for life safety and equipment protection. Bulkheads and decks are commonly insulated with fire resistant high temperature insulation that comply with USCG Regulations. Unifrax offers a special version of soluble fiber blanket called FyreWrap® Marine Blanket, specifically manufactured to meet this requirement.
FyreWrap Marine Blanket from Unifrax is a totally inorganic, flexible, high-temperature insulation blanket specifically designed to provide passive fire protection for marine applications. The calcia, magnesia, silica chemistry is designed to enhance biosolubility. Unifrax’s proprietary fiber spinning technology combined with mechanical needling of the fibers eliminates the need for binders in the product. This results in a material with high tensile strength and superior thermal and acoustical properties. FyreWrap Marine Blanket is chemically stable and its thermal properties are unaffected after exposure to water immersion or high humidity.The blanket is offered as 6 pcf or 8 pcf density and available in .5”, 1.0”, 1.5”, and 2” thickness’. It is installed by impaling the blanket over insulation pins welded to the steel wall or deck surface. This material offers superb insulation value in a flexible lightweight noncombustible form. This offers builders and owners reduced structure weight, which may yield increased vessel speed, fuel savings, and available payloads.
