Penetration & Shaft Sealing

Unifrax has developed the most complete line of products for passive fire protection.

Passive Fire Protection has as main function safeguarding human life and, secondly, the safeguarding of assets. Passive fire protection systems increase the time of the fire resistance to various elements and are present in metallic structures, fire doors, ducts of pressurized staircases and industrial kitchens, seals and various other fire suppression applications where we must minimize the consequences of a fire.

In case of fire, these systems will provide additional structural stability, subdivision and tightness to the action of fire and smoke and the additional time will be very important to:

  • Ensure conditions for the use of public relief with sufficient time to perform activities of rescue and fire fighting;
  • Ensure conditions for the use of public relief with sufficient time to perform activities of rescue and fire fighting;
  • Avoid or minimize damage to property.

Shafts Sealing

In the event of a fire, the openings for electrical/phone wiring and hydraulic tubing (Shafts) allow the fire and smoke to spread quickly.

Unifrax can supply products that are able to contain the spread of fire saving time until the fire extinction, avoiding the destruction of property in many cases, as well as saving lives.

The system generally used has been tested and approved by the Underwriters Laboratories - UL and ULC (in addition to tests performed at IPT), and this is a simple, effective and highly competitive system. This system consists of the closure of the Shafts with Durablanket B8 and FyrePutty mass, both products manufactured by Unifrax. The blanket is installed in modules and a layer of FyrePutty mass is applied over it, thus suppressing the passage of gas leak, fire and smoke. This system provides up to 3 hours of fire resistance (F Rating).
